Becoming a Christian

Come as you are. Be forever changed.

You don’t have to have it all together. You don’t have to fix your past before you come. Jesus meets us as we are, saves us by His grace, and begins the lifelong work of shaping us into His likeness.

The Good News

The story of the gospel

In the beginning, God made the world and made us to know Him and enjoy Him. But we all made choices that hurt us, hurt others, and hurt the world — what the Bible calls sin. Those choices separated us from a perfect God and left us unable to fix things on our own.

So God did something we never could. His own Son entered the world as a baby named Jesus. Jesus lived the perfect life we couldn’t live, and then He closed the separation between us and God by dying on a cross for our sin and rising from the dead three days later.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” — John 3:16-17 NLT

God’s love for us is so great that Jesus was willing to die for our sins so we could be a part of His family forever. That’s the kind of love that meets us right where we are — and changes everything.

How do I respond?

Saying yes to Jesus

Becoming a Christian is as simple as turning from your old way of life and trusting Jesus — believing that He died and rose for you, and choosing to follow Him as Lord. You don’t need the perfect words. You just need an honest heart. If you want to say yes today, you can pray something like this:

A prayer to pray

God, I’ve decided to trust that Jesus is Your Son who came to save me and the world. I don’t know everything about what this means yet, but I do want to follow Jesus and live His way. Thank You for loving me enough to send Jesus. Thank You for inviting me into Your family. Amen.

If you prayed that — or you’re close and still have questions — we would love to talk with you. There’s no pressure and no perfect timing. This is the best decision you’ll ever make, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Your first step

Baptism: a visible picture of a spiritual reality

After placing your faith in Christ, the first step of obedience is baptism. Baptism is a public way of declaring your decision to follow Jesus. Going under the water pictures your old life dying with Christ; coming up out of the water pictures your new life raised with Him.

Baptism doesn’t save you — it celebrates what Jesus has already done. If you’ve said yes to Jesus, we’d love to help you take this step at our next baptism.
